Security systems are now commonplace in business and domestic settings and come in many forms. Here at Karma Electrical, we engage with the customer to propose the best system for them. TEC or to give it its full name, ‘technology-enabled care’ is a method of using technology to improve a person’s health or independence in their own home.

Technology Enabled Care (TEC)

Technology-enabled care can be a traditional warden call system with pull cords and pendants or more advanced applications that can monitor aspects of someone’s wellbeing remotely. At Karma Electrical we have experience with all the main manufacturers and staff are trained on the settings and scenarios that may be present in the field. We are Legrand Tynetec-approved installers.

  • Warden call systems- A fully hardwired networked system suitable for grouped living schemes.
  • Dispersed alarms- Stand-alone units that work on GSM.
  • Fall detection – Enables alerts to chosen recipients when a fall occurs.
  • Client wandering – Monitors movement of clients, common in dementia settings.
  • Flood detection- Can prevent a major event before it gets out of control.

Access Control and Door Entry

Access control is a system that controls who is entering your site and when. There are options which range from the more conventional fobs/swipe cards to the latest virtual key applications. Systems can be accessed remotely via a portal to manage keys, approve or bar access to certain people as well as a log to view activity. Karma Electrical are 3rd party accredited for Access Control with the Security Systems and Alarm Inspection Board (SSAIB).

  • Fob, swipe card or phone app access options – three examples of different way to access your home. Fobs and swipe cards have been commonplace for many years now, but app access is becoming more popular, especially in new builds.
  • Remote access to edit users – an essential tool for building owners and landlords. This is not only a pro from a security point view but also a financial one to save visits to site.
  • Various locking options available – Traditional electronic strikes, high security mag locks or 3-point motorised internal of the door are just some examples..
  • Door Entry is essential for multi-dwelling buildings and comes hand in hand with access control. Audio or video options are available and door panels can be decorative or robust depending on the setting.
  • Traditional handset systems – Entrotec, CAME, Videx and Fermax systems installed.
  • Mobile phone-linked systems – We work closely with the Unloc platform that sits on Salto hardware.
  • IP Systems – Legrand is an IP system that works on a fully wired network.
  • Wireless Systems – Karma works closely with Intratone, a system that gives video calls to residents via a pre-paid GSM module.
  • Video or audio – Whether you are specifying video or audio we can cater to your needs.

CCTV

Closed Circuit Television or VSS (video surveillance system) is the use of cameras to enhance the security of a site. Standalone IP systems have been around for many years now and are commonplace, but platform systems are now becoming more widely used. The use of the platform system can bring multiple sites together on one portal to allow them to be administered from one place. Granting/denying access to specific sites/cameras, downloading footage remotely as well as the option for cloud storage are some of the advantages the platform set up can provide. Karma Electrical are 3rd party accredited for CCTV with the Security Systems and Alarm Inspection Board (SSAIB).

  • IP systems – Industry standard now and the majority of installations will be of this type.
  • PTZ (Pan, Tilt and Zoom) cameras- These cameras can track movements and be set to roam around larger sites from one camera.
  • Platform applications – Ideal for customers with multiple sites and users.
  • Remote access – No need for site visits to review footage which saves time and money when using your system.
  • ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) – Suitable for sites where the public may visit in vehicles.

Automatic Doors

Automation of a door can be beneficial to communal and dwelling doors. There are various types that fit into the specifics of each site and can make a real difference to someone who has trouble managing a traditional door. Karma Electrical engineers are all qualified to ADIA BS EN 16005 and we are members of the Automatic Door Installation Association (ADIA).

  • Swing door openers – These types of units can retrofit to a traditional door and can be fitted to communal or dwelling doors, different units apply to different settings.
  • Sliding Doors – Communal doors often have these and there is an option to retrofit to existing swing doors in some cases.
  • Installation – Brand new doors and retrofit available, engineers trained in various manufacturer brands.
  • Servicing- Carried out in line with relevant British standards, engineer’s city and guilds BS EN 16005 qualified.

External Doors

Changing your security system on a multi-dwelling building is all very well but what if the actual doors are not fit for purpose? Karma Electrical work closely with an aluminium door manufacturer and can offer the whole package to upgrade your entire entrance area. See our projects page for an example of what a transformation can be achieved.

  • Metal
  • UPVC

The digital switch will be complete by 31st January 2027 and yes, you will need to make some alterations to your warden call system in the form of a digital communicator.

We will carry out a full site survey to discuss your needs and from this a full System Design Proposal will be provided to give guidance and understanding.

To view your cameras on a basic CCTV system you do not need a subscription. However, management software and cloud storage can require ongoing costs.

Under BS EN 16005 automatic pedestrian door should be maintained at least once every 12 months. However, the machinery directive does take a broader risk-based approach. Manufacturers’ instructions, level of use, environment, and risk must be considered, which often means every 6 months servicing is required.

Of course! By doing this we can fit the door entry panel and fob reader flush into the doors side pocket for a much nicer finish.
